Eriko Kawano | Ikebana Artist

I am a certified Sogetsu Ikebana instructor (Second Grade Jonin Sanyo) based in New York City. My practice explores form, space and colour, capturing the fleeting beauty of branches, leaves and flowers as natural materials through arrangements that thoughtfully respond to their surroundings.

I studied in Tokyo under Kiyoko Okuma-sensei, and later with Mika Otani-sensei, whose guidance I continue to follow. Currently, I am continuing my studies in New York with Christine Donck Guelton-sensei, exploring the creative transformation of ikebana’s essence and principles under her guidance.

While my work is rooted in tradition, I am always exploring new ways to express ikebana in the contemporary world. I hope to share this evolving practice with those who are drawn to the beauty of ikebana.
